Your response is understandable, especially with a previous traumatic experience that put your life and livelihood at risk. In my understanding, this current coronavirus may be a bad mutation-but it pales in comparison to the actual previous pandemics the world has faced. My understanding is that the response to this in terms of unconstitutional enforcement of mandates, forcing people to stay home against their will, and destroying the economic and financial infrastructure of the US is unproportionate to the actual danger. Yes some people are at risk-just as some people are at risk from the flu, the many other coronavirus variations already in existence, pneumonia, West Nile Virus, Ebola, Salmonella, Ecoli, and various other diseases. The best way to fight this would be to have the people who actually are at risk take the necessary precautions, to have those who are healthy, able, and willing to continue working, and to have everyone do things to keep their bodies and immune systems healthy and strong. This would be thing such as encouraging time outside in the sun, having enough social interaction to keep the brain from becoming depressed from isolation (which compromises the immune system), and an appropriate intake of the vitamins and minerals that will keep people healthy and strong. Quarantine for those who are actually sick and immunocompromised helps both the sickly and those who are not sick. Quarantine for those who are healthy and strong doesn’t help anyone, and is more along the lines of tyranny. For a cold like this, the sanitation that can be used to keep people safe is both easy to learn and easy to do. The reason it is a risk to destroy the economy over something that has a 98% survival rate is because the ripple effects from the economy will have effects we haven’t even comprehended yet. It will effect millions for years to come-with joblessness, poverty, starvation, high rates of suicide and depression, and could create a communist or socialist society.
